Biogas

Clean Green Energy from Waste

At Selecta, in partnership with AD Solutions GmbH, we design, build, and commission profitable biogas and biomethane (BioCNG) systems that replace liquid fossil fuels with clean, renewable energy. Our systems can provide a quick ROI as producing methane-rich gas at 30% to 50% less per gigajoule (GJ) than diesel or heavy fuel oil (HFO).

Applications include:

  • Electricity Generation: Replace diesel or HFO in generators at remote mines that are not grid connected or face power rationing.
  • Transport Fleets: Upgrade trucks, buses, and heavy-duty vehicles with dual-fuel conversions, allowing them to run on a blend of diesel and BioCNG.

* Fuel and electricity prices fluctuate continually, influenced by various factors including international commodity markets, exchange rates, government-imposed taxes and levies, and the location of consumption. Biogas pricing is primarily shaped by the cost and availability of feedstock, project financing costs, and proximity to markets. The prices presented should be considered indicative rather than definitive.

Bioenergy for Mines

Sustainable Architecture by Selectra

Transforming Impacted Mine Land into Clean Energy Farms

Selectra, in collaboration with leading partners, has pioneered a breakthrough approach to mine rehabilitation—converting degraded, non-food producing land into productive bioenergy farms. This innovative model not only reduces mining costs but also delivers low-cost, renewable energy while helping combat climate change.

How It Works

  • Energy Crops on Marginal Land: Fast-growing crops are cultivated on mine-impacted land unsuitable for food production.
  • Carbon Sequestration: These crops absorb CO₂ from the atmosphere and store a portion in their root systems, reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Fossil Fuel Replacement: The harvested biomass is converted into clean energy, replacing diesel and other fossil fuels.
  • Phytoremediation: The plants also help remove heavy metals and contaminants from the soil, restoring ecological balance.
💡 Why It Matters

Mining often leaves behind land that is chemically and physically degraded—posing environmental risks and offering little economic value. Traditional rehabilitation methods are costly and yield limited benefits.

The Selectra Process:
  • Stabilizes and restores disturbed land
  • Arrests pollution and dust generation
  • Converts liabilities into economically viable, sustainable assets
  • Aligns with global rehabilitation and ESG standards

DiBiCOO

Selectra and the DiBiCoo Project: Driving Successful Biogas Projects

Selectra was a proud and active partner in the Digital Global Biogas Cooperation (DiBiCoo) Project, an ambitious 33-month initiative funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme. DiBiCoo was dedicated to fostering sustainable biogas and bioenergy markets by connecting European technology and expertise with developing and emerging countries. These included South Africa, Ghana, Ethiopia, Argentina, and Indonesia.

A key aspect of our involvement was gaining a deep understanding of the conditions required for successful biogas plants in emerging markets, as well as identifying the reasons behind past high failure rates. This valuable insight continues to inform our work, ensuring we deliver robust and effective biogas solutions.
